Chevy Addresses Parents Biggest Fear - Teen Driving
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, August was the most popular birth month in the U.S. in the year 2000 which means that this month more than 360,000 teenagers will be turning 16 and obtaining their learner's permit. That means an influx of teen drivers on the road and an influx of parents worrying about their teen driver being on the road. Chevrolet recently commissioned a Harris Poll and the results showed that worry over teen driving was the number one parental stress. In fact, child driving earned 55 percent, academic achievement came in second at 53 percent, drugs and alcohol had 52 percent, and sexual activity had 49 percent. In response to this overwhelming concern, the brand developed its Teen Driver Technology which is now an available option in 10 of its cars, trucks, and SUVs for the 2017 model year including the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV, Camaro, Colorado, Cruze, Malibu, Silverado, Silverado HD, Suburban, Tahoe and Volt. This technology provides an in-vehicle report card that tracks driving habits so that parents can monitor their teen’s activity so that they can discuss it with them and make improvements where necessary. Additionally, this system implements safe driving practices by giving audible warnings when the driver is going faster than the preset speeds, and muting the radio or music streaming from a paired device if the front seat passengers do not fasten their seatbelts. “I, like many of our employees, am a parent of teenagers, so we personally understand the anxiety of having a teen driver in the house,” said Steve Majoros, director of marketing, Chevrolet Cars and Crossovers. “And while we can’t control a teen’s behavior when they are in a car without a parent, Chevrolet’s Teen Driver Technology can remind them to buckle up and avoid speeding, while our other available active safety features can help to alert them in certain situations when they’re making less-than-perfect driving decisions.”The Teen Driver in-vehicle report car monitors different activities depending on the vehicle but a few of these activities include:
