One Millionth One World Futbol Delivered

The millionth One World Futbol was recently delivered by Chevrolet to the Mabu-a-tlou girls’ primary school in Hammanskraal, South Africa. This is an impressive milestone for the One World Futbol project, which Chevrolet is a founding sponsor of. Back in 2012, Chevrolet made a commitment to deliver 1.5 million One World Futbols over the next three years, and this latest milestone means that Chevrolet is that much closer to completing that goal. The one World Futbol project was started as a way to promote the power of play by encouraging children from underprivileged areas to learn to deal with life’s daily challenges through the use of soccer and other sports. What makes the One World Futbol so unique is that it has been created to be virtually indestructible to hold up against the rough and rocky terrains that children play on in areas around the world. The delivery of the One Millionth Futbol at also coincided with the official unveiling of the Mabu-A-Tlou Lebala La Metshameko pitch (soccer field), which Chevrolet donated time and funding to help rebuild. “For Chevrolet, it’s not just about what the One World Futbol is, but what the ball enables us to do,” said Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer, Global Chevrolet. “The donation of the 1 millionth ball is a tremendous milestone in our effort to help children everywhere realize that through play all things are possible.”

Chevrolet Employees Celebrate TeamGM Cares Week

Chevrolet volunteers recently brought joy to a large group of children undergoing cancer treatments at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan.  In recognition of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and teamGM Cares Week, team members brought a total of 49 teddy bears to the children at this hospital.  The delivery was even more special because it took place on National Teddy Bear Day. One of the bears delivered was a giant teddy bear that arrived in style after being driven down the streets of Manhattan in a 2015 Corvette Stingray Convertible.  In recognition of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month all of the bears wore a gold ribbon.  This marks the third year that General Motors’ employees have participated in teamGM Cares week during which employees are encouraged to donate their time to local nonprofit organizations and charities. “As someone who believes in the power of charity and altruism, as well as one who has been impacted by the effect cancer has had on my family, I am excited to participate in this donation and partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering,” said volunteer Sean Graham, director of Investment Operations for GM Asset Management. “I hope we are providing as much of a benefit to these children and staff as we are receiving by giving back in this small way.”

KBB.com recently named the 2014 Chevrolet Impala as the “Most Comfortable Car under $30,000”.  The list was chosen by Consumer Website Editors taking several vehicle comfort factors into account in their decision.  Overall, the Impala’s redesigned stronger body structure was one of the main factors in the vehicle receiving this honor.  This new body design creates a quieter interior environment  with the addition of features including triple-seal doors and acoustic foam baffles creating a higher overall quality to the interior design. Additional comfort features added to the new Impala’s design include a low instrument panel, bolstered seats and  six-window “greenhouse” design. Valet Mode will be available on 2015 Chevy Corvettes

Owners of the 2015 Chevy Corvette might feel better about handing over their keys with its new Valet Mode. The new system allows owners to lock the interior storage, disable the infotainment system and record video, audio and vehicle data. Then all the information that was gathered, can be viewed instantly when the car is parked on its 8 inch HD screen, or be uploaded to a computer. “Think of it as a baby monitor for your car,” said Harlan Charles, Corvette product manager. “Anyone who has felt apprehension about handing over their keys will appreciate the peace of mind of knowing exactly what happened while their baby was out of sight.” The system is made up of three parts. First, it has a 720p HD camera that is mounted in the windshield header trim, which records the driver’s point-of-view. Second there is a self-contained telemetry recorder that uses a GPS receiver that is hard wired to the Corvette’s networks. Lastly the system has a dedicated SD-card slot in the glove box, that can fit an eight gigabyte card that can record up to 200 minutes of driving time. The Valet System will be available in all 2015 Corvette models, giving owners peace of mind everywhere when they’re handing over their keys.

The New Hydra-Matic 8L90 Paddle-Shift Automatic Transmission on the 2015 Corvette Stingray

The new GM-Developed Hydra-Matic 8L90 paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission offered in the 2015 Corvette Stingray has enhanced its performance so much that the vehicle is now offering 3.5 percent more fuel economy over the previous six-speed automatic, at an estimated 29-mpg highway. Now an eight speed vehicle, with four gearsets and five clutches (two brake and three rotating), and creative packaging enables it to fit the same space as the previous six-speed automatic. Since mostly aluminum and magnesium were mostly used in the creation of the transmission, it is now eight pounds lighter. “GM’s new 8L90 eight-speed automatic represents a rare win-win-win scenario for customers,” said Kavoos Kaveh, global chief engineer for eight-speed automatic transmissions. “It offers greater performance and efficiency, while weighing less than the transmission it replaces. That’s a rare accomplishment in the industry today – and one for which GM has been awarded more than two dozen patents.” The lower engine speed reduces fuel consumption, while a new torque converter design enhances refinement, particularly during low-speed gear changes. Continue following our blog and keep an eye on our Corvette Stingray inventory that’s available for Albuquerque, Los Lunas, Moriarty and Santa Fe, NM customers if you’re interested in getting the new 2015 model the moment it arrives.

Chevy Helping Children Across The Globe

Over the weekend Chevrolet hosted 11 children from all over the world in Manchester, England to serve as mascots for Manchester United’s Premier League. The season opener took place on Saturday at Old Trafford. The children range from 10 to 13 years of age and are from Brazil, China, South Africa and South Korea to name a few. Chevrolet built their “What Do You #PlayFor?” campaign around this group of kids. "Enabling these children to live the dream of being on the Old Trafford pitch with the Manchester United first team is an unprecedented and dramatic way to celebrate our global partnership with the club and our mission to spread the power of play around the world," said Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer, Global Chevrolet. In addition to attending the season opener and being mascots, the kids will attend Manchester United’s famed Soccer School, meet club legends, and receive a tour of the Club’s iconic Old Trafford stadium. The children were chosen in part because of their love for the game, determination to overcome a variety of challenges and use play to realize anything is possible. Chevrolet also recently revitalized a pitch in Bandung, Indonesia. Their goal is to increase the quality of life for the population as a whole, with a focus on those living with HIV and drug addiction.

The 2014 Chevy Sonic Makes KBB.com Top 10 List

The 2014 Chevrolet Sonic made Kelly Blue Book’s KBB.com list of the 10 Best Back-to-School Cars.  A standout on the list, the Sonic is the only subcompact car and the only American-made domestic model included. The Sonic was recognized for its style, features, price, personality, and practicality.   In addition to being praised for its stylish appearance, KBB.com praised the Sonic for some of its safety features--10 airbags--and its incredible fuel efficiency--40 mpg.  It also acknowledged its advanced safety package which includes lane departure warning, forward collision alert, and rear vision camera.  The advanced safety package is available on models but base-model Sonics. “Chevrolet prides itself on offering something for everyone, no matter which road of life they are on,” said Steve Majoros, director, Chevrolet Car Marketing. “The Sonic is perfect for students, offering easy-to-use technology and connectivity as well as safety, versatility, and economy in a stylish package.” This year, Chevy has added standard OnStar with 4G LTE and a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.  The hotspot provides drivers and passengers with a mobile hub of connectivity and is on whenever the car is on.  This feature comes with a three-month/three gigabyte data trial. The 2016 Chevy Volt

Chevrolet gave everyone a little taste of what the newest generation of the Volt will look like. While the close up shot doesn’t reveal much, it was enough to get Chevy fanatics excited. The full 2016 Volt will be debuting at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Volt has received multiple customer satisfaction awards, and according to a recent leading independent satisfaction survey, the Volt is the highest-rated compact car under $55,000. It continues to draw Non-GM customers to the brand as well. One reason for that might be that for the past three years, a leading customer publication has reported survey results showing more than 90 percent of Volt owners would buy the car again. “Volt is the perfect example of the ingenuity that drives everything we do at Chevrolet,” Global Chevrolet Chief Marketing Officer Tim Mahoney, said at the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefings. “Volt fully delivers on the promises of Find New Roads and will continue to provide consumers with the transportation solutions they need and deserve in the future.” Since Volt owners are driving more than 63 percent of their miles in the vehicles electric mode, they’re logging more than 500 million gas-free miles since the Volt was released in 2010, and have saved more than 25 million gallons of gasoline. Along with it’s environmental benefits, the Volt has been recognized for its safety, receiving an IIHS 2014 Top Safety Pick. The 2016 Volt promises to build on the award-winning safety and technology that Chevrolet customers have come to expect in the best-selling plug-in passenger car in the U.S. Keep an eye on this blog for more news about the Volt if you’re an interested car shopper from Albuquerque, Los Lunas, Moriarty or Santa Fe, NM.
