Although it hasn’t quite arrived at dealerships, the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV has managed to make quite a name for itself, that name being the Motor Trend Car of the Year! The Motor Trend Awards evaluate vehicles based on design, engineering, efficiency, safety, value, and performance, and the editors concluded the Bolt EV excelled in each of these categories. The all-new electric vehicle is as efficient (an EPA-estimated 238 miles of range on a full charge) as it is affordable (starting MSRP of $37,495). This is the fourth Motor Trend award for Chevy in three years. We have a few tips for safe and stress-free travel that will make your holiday commute a piece of cake! Or should we say pie? Check out our suggestions below! Adjust Your Schedule: The only real way to completely avoid the Thanksgiving traffic is to switch around your schedule. Wednesday and Sunday are the busiest travel days, so if you can help it, try traveling on Tuesday and Saturday. Take the Scenic Route: If you hate the thought of sitting in traffic on the highway, try taking a different route. Sure, it might not be the most direct, but you’ll avoid sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic that will likely save you time in the long run! Plan Ahead: Traveling is stressful enough, so make sure that you’re ready to hit the road and stay on it with drinks, snacks, charging cables, and anything else you may need for the drive. We suggest packing everything up the day before so you aren’t rushing around the morning of. Take a Toll: Chances are you’ll probably be traveling on a toll road at some point during your trip. Make sure you have change on hand or any electronic toll pass mounted correctly. No Distractions: Distracted driving is dangerous anytime you’re behind the wheel, but especially during holiday travel, as there are probably plenty of people on the road who are doing the same. Stay alert and focused by removing all distractions, especially cell phones. Designate one of your passengers to handle responding to any text messages. Rules of the Road: You might be feeling anxious or stressed while driving, which can cause you to disregard normal traffic laws like the speed limit and road signs, but these are especially important during this time of year. With drivers being as unpredictable as the weather, it’s important to exercise caution on the road. Check Up Time: The best thing you can do for yourself before getting behind the wheel this Thanksgiving is to make sure everything is working properly in your vehicle. Halloween is almost here! If you’re still looking for a way to get spooky this weekend, Galles Chevrolet has come up with the perfect way to celebrate. The best part? It involves your New Chevy Vehicle and you don’t even have to leave the state! With over 300 years of history, we have plenty to explore right here in New Mexico. Take a look at the haunted road trip we’ve planned out for our customers in Albuquerque, Los Lunas, Moriarty, and Santa Fe, NM. Our road trip starts out at the Hotel Parq Central (806 Central Avenue SE in Albuquerque, NM). This building has undergone numerous changes over the years. It was originally a hospital for railroad employees, but renamed Memorial Hospital and converted into a psychiatric facility in the 1980s. During this time, many patients reported having their sheets ripped off in the middle of the night by “unseen forces” (creepy). It’s now a hotel, so if you’re not into staying the night, you can always head up to the rooftop bar, Apothecary Lounge to grab a quick drink and enjoy the view. Next stop is La Posada de Santa Fe (330 E. Palace Avenue, Santa Fe, NM). Before its expansion, the hotel was originally the Staab House (yes, pronounced stab). This house was built in 1882 and owned by Julia Staab. She liked it so much, she decided to stay forever! Her spirit has been spotted several places, including her old bedroom, the grand staircase, and the bar! In fact, the hotel named their attached restaurant, Julia, a Spirited Restaurant and Bar. After that, head to St. James Hotel (617 S. Collison Avenue, Cimarron, NM). Cimarron was a booming town in the days of the Wild Wild West. At least 26 people died in the hotel, and many were murdered. Bullet holes in the ceiling are still visible in the dining room, which used to be the bar. If that’s not scary enough, Room 18 is permanently closed to visitors because it is apparently haunted by such a hostile spirit. Our last stop on the haunted road trip is none other than Cuervo, NM. When it comes to ghost towns, you won’t find one much better than this. Unlike many others, it’s very accessible and surprisingly well preserved. Once a booming railroad town, it was largely deserted after the construction of Route 66, which ran right through Cuervo. Apparently, there are very few remaining residents, aside from the owner of the non-functioning gas station. Cue the goosebumps. Check out the full list of scariest places here.
