General Motors has reported that the Chevrolet brand sold a total of 175,965 units throughout August with their overall total for the year so far reaching 1,361,675. Silverado vehicles topped the charts once again, racking in total sales of 52,408 units for the entire month. This is more than twice as much that the next highest-selling model, the Cruze, sold. The Cruze ended August with 22,342 units which is a 52.4 percent increase over last year making this model the one with the highest year-over-year increase for the brand this month. “Despite tighter dealer inventories, we had a solid retail performance in August led by Chevrolet, which gained retail share in eight different segments,” said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of Sales Operations. It may seem hard to believe but this year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the iconic Chevy Camaro! In celebration of the golden anniversary, the brand has been putting a great deal of focus on this incredible model by looking back at the ways that the Camaro has evolved over the past five decades. They will pay tribute to the iconic model at a number of functions and events throughout the year. Recently, the annual Woodward Dream Cruise took place in Detroit and Chevy was there with a number of its classic models including the first-ever Chevy Camaro! This historic model was displayed in a glass enclosure that was built to look like a portable time capsule. Attendees were able to walk around the capsule and truly appreciate this vehicle from every angle and with the unique lighting within the box it could be viewed and enjoyed both day and night. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, August was the most popular birth month in the U.S. in the year 2000 which means that this month more than 360,000 teenagers will be turning 16 and obtaining their learner's permit. That means an influx of teen drivers on the road and an influx of parents worrying about their teen driver being on the road. Chevrolet recently commissioned a Harris Poll and the results showed that worry over teen driving was the number one parental stress. In fact, child driving earned 55 percent, academic achievement came in second at 53 percent, drugs and alcohol had 52 percent, and sexual activity had 49 percent. In response to this overwhelming concern, the brand developed its Teen Driver Technology which is now an available option in 10 of its cars, trucks, and SUVs for the 2017 model year including the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV, Camaro, Colorado, Cruze, Malibu, Silverado, Silverado HD, Suburban, Tahoe and Volt. This technology provides an in-vehicle report card that tracks driving habits so that parents can monitor their teen’s activity so that they can discuss it with them and make improvements where necessary. Chevy recently revealed that they are going to be releasing an Alaskan Edition Package of the 2017 Silverado HD which will be available sometime after the start of the initial production of the 2017 model. This new Special Edition package will be available on the WT and LT trim levels of the 2017 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD and it will require the models to be equipped with 4WD. This Saturday, August 20, 2016,thousands of classic car enthusiasts will be gathered on Woodward Avenue to take part in the annual Woodward Dream Cruise. There will be over 40,000 classic cars participating in this year’s event and the Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad will be on hand in order to ensure that all vehicles remain operating in top condition for the duration. “Classic car lovers take great care of their vehicles, but unforeseen issues can crop up, especially given the long hours of the Dream Cruise,” said Chevrolet Certified Service Marketing Manager Scott Williams. “The professional technicians from the Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad look forward to keeping this year’s classics on the road, cruising.” The Squad will be available to assist vehicles with issues such as stalling, running out of gas, overheating, and more. They have been offering these services at the Dream Cruise for the past five years and in that time they have helped to service nearly 200 vehicles. For this year, the Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad will consist of technicians traveling up and down the Woodward part in six 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Rescue Squad Pickup trucks. The assistance of the Squad provides owners of these classic cars with reassurance knowing that trained technicians are on hand to service their vehicles should a situation arise. While the technicians of the Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad are happy to lend a helping hand, they have offered a few helpful tips for owners to help reduce the possibility of issues arising. Every parent has faced the mixture of pride and panic that is associated with teaching their teenager to drive. It’s nice to know they will be able to handle all of their own transportation but nerve wracking to allow them behind the wheel of a vehicle. Chevy is always looking for new and innovative ways to make their vehicles safer for just this reason, so they’ve created a new technology that is specifically designed to monitor teen driving activity. This new Teen Driver technology comes included with an in-vehicle report which is a first for the automotive industry. This technology will allow the vehicle to monitor teen driving habits and put together a report for parents so that they can see what driving habits need improvement. It also gives them peace of mind knowing that they can still keep an eye on their kids when they aren’t in the car with them. The Equinox and Traverse are the latest Chevy SUVs to have special edition vehicles included in their lineup. Chevy has just announced the addition of the Equinox Midnight and Sport Editions and the Traverse Graphite Edition as the latest specials edition models to be added to their ever-growing special edition portfolio. These upgraded models have proven to be quite successful for the brand especially with younger and wealthier car buyers. In general, the special edition versions of Chevy trucks sell three times faster than the average models. “Special Editions resonate with buyers, offering a unique package with unique looks,” said Betsy Flegg, senior manager, Chevrolet SUVs. “We’ve already seen a strong interest with the Trax Midnight Edition when we announced production last December. We anticipate customers will strongly like the looks of the new Equinox Midnight and Sport Editions and Traverse Graphite Edition.” The 2017 Equinox Midnight and Sport Editions are both offered on the LT trim and must include the available Convenience Package. Total sales for Chevrolet reached 178,820 units throughout July according to a new report released by General Motors. The Silverado once again came in as the top-selling model with 54,116 units sold during the month. This total is significantly higher than sales of the second-best seller, the Equinox. Sales of this model reached 21,882, a 1.2 percent increase over last year.
