Stay Safe This Spring!

Spring has officially sprung and as the cooler weather rolls out and the warmer weather rolls in, many of us will be hitting the road for getaways and joyrides, but even if the weather is nicer it doesn’t mean you should forget about safety. Hopefully, the snow is gone for good but the roads can still be dangerous. Spring weather brings rain which can make the road slippery, but apart from weather conditions, the warm weather brings more people out and about which means you need to be more vigilant to watch out for pedestrians, bikers, and motorcycles. Since it’s been a while since the weather has been really nice we want to give you a reminder of what to keep an eye out for. Check it out below Be On The Lookout For Potholes: Winter weather takes a big toll on our roadways, which leads to some pretty nasty potholes. If your speeding down the road and don’t slow down in time and hit a pothole, then chances are that your vehicle is gonna have some damage, serious damage. Damage can include a punctured tire, bent rim, suspension damage, poor alignment, and exhaust system damage. Slow Down For Spring Showers: Did you know that roads are most slippery when it first starts to rain? This is caused by the rainwater mixing with contaminants on the road, such as oil and grease. Make sure to increase your following distance to allow for proper braking. Watch For Animals On The Move: Animal activity is up when the weather starts getting nicer. That means keep an eye out and drive slow especially for animals like deer that are known to be out at dusk and dawn. Watch For Pedestrians: Similar to animals, people tend to be out and about more when the weather starts getting warmer. Whether that means there are more walkers, cyclists or kids play hopscotch. Be sure to slow down especially in residential neighborhoods and busy streets. Share The Road With Motorcycles: Spring is when the motorcycle riders come out, and because of their speed and size, they may come in and out of your blind spots quickly. Be sure to listen to the sound of their bike and take a few extra seconds before switching lanes. If you are following a motorcycle, remember to leave a good amount of space in between. Maintain Proper Tire Pressure: During the winter months, your tires lose air due to the cold temperatures, this cause your tire to be under-deflated. Vice-versa, warm weather will cause them to be over-inflated. Each situation can lead to increased wear and poor handling. Inspect Your Tires: Spring will bring the showers and when that happens making sure your tire tread is in shape is important to the quality of your driving. Just like snow, rain makes the road slippery and having good tires will make or break your driving experience. Remember to use easy tricks the penny test to check your tire tread and regularly check your tire pressure if your vehicle doesn’t display it for you. Pay Attention In Construction Zones: When the snow washes away and the spring days are here to stay, construction will start up again. One thing to keep in mind is that construction zones ask you to slow down for a reason, do it. Remember to... Be attentive. Construction workers and equipment may suddenly enter the roadway. Traffic patterns can change daily to accommodate the work being done. Understand and follow the signs. Make safe lane changes. Solid lines in construction zones mean that you should stay in your lane. Slow down. Fines may be doubled in construction zones. In addition, slowing down can save a life. Find Your Dream Ride Here!

Don’t Forget To Top Off Your Fluid Levels!

Spring is here and that means it’s time to roll up your sleeves and start checking off your to-do list! With so much to do to get your house, yard, and yourself ready for spring, we wouldn’t blame you if you forgot to add your vehicle to your list of things to do! But this week we want to help remind you to top off your vehicle’s fluid levels and remind you why it is so important to do so! We understand that not everyone knows their way around the inside of a vehicle, and that’s okay! That’s why we’ve taken the time to list out all the fluid levels you should check and why it’s important that those fluids are always where they should be. Changing you fluids is very simple and can be a DIY project that should only take a few minutes, but if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, we would be more than happy to do it for you! All you have to do is head over to our site and use our online service scheduler! If you have any questions feel free to give us a call and don’t forget to check out our service specials to see how you can get your ride in tip-top shape and save big doing so. Engine Oil: Your engine needs oil in order to keep moving parts lubricated and working properly. To check your oil, make sure your engine is cool before popping open the hood. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it on a clean rag, reinsert the stick all the way back into the tank. Pull out the stick and see where the oil line hits, there will be a notch that indicates what a safe oil level is. If your oil hits below the notch, check for the specific type of oil and add some yourself. Transmission Fluid: Transmission fluid is important because it keeps your transmission lubricated and will save you from expensive repairs. The second dipstick in your engine is for this fluid. Like we did to check the engine’s oil, you will have to remove the dipstick, wipe it off, and reinsert it back into the tank. Pull it back out and examine where the fluid hits on the stick, it’s also a good idea to check the quality of your fluids. Wipe a small amount onto your fingers, if the fluid has a pink or clear look to it, it is fine. If the fluid smells burnt or has particles in it, it is time to swap it out. Brake Fluid: From a safety standpoint, this is one of the most important fluids. Brake fluid basically keeps you from running into other cars and objects. You’ll find the brake fluid reservoir toward the back under your hood, be sure to clean off the outside of the compartment so any dirt or dust doesn’t enter the reservoir. Open up the cap and look inside to see where the fluid level is. It should be about a half-inch from the cap. If it is lower than that, check your owner’s manual for what fluid you should use. Also, if the fluid has a dark tint to it, bring your vehicle into our service department for a change of fluids. Power Steering Fluid: It’s important to have control over your car and this fluid keeps the right parts lubricated to ensure a safe driving experience. This reservoir is typically found under the hood, on the passenger side with a cap that will likely say “steering” on it. Many cars have a light colored reservoir so you can see the level of fluid without removing the cap. If your car has a dark reservoir, clean off the cap before opening to avoid dirt particles from entering the system. Open up the cap and use the dipstick the same way as we did before, if the fluid is low, you can easily add more. Also, if your fluid level is low check for a leak in the system. Windshield Washer Fluid: One important part of driving is being able to see out the windshield, this fluid is key to ensure that happens. Most vehicles have a clear washer fluid tank that will be labeled either “washer” or “windshield.” If you need to add more, simply pop the cap off and pour into the tank. Do not use soap and water if you are completely empty!! But, window cleaner that you use at home can work until you fill up with the real stuff. Schedule Your Service Appointment Now

Customer Testimonials: Mary and Randell P. in Albuquerque, NM - “My husband and I went to Galles to test drive a Bolt. We pulled into the dealership and noticed a pile of a salesman on a corner near the certified building waving at us and one even pointed to a parking spot. We continued to the handicap parking in front of service. I was on the phone with a previous dealership as we pulled in so we did not exit the vehicle for a few minutes. I noticed a salesman standing nearby who kept his eye on us and walked over as we got out of the vehicle. He welcomed us to Galles and introduced himself as Shawn Desmond and shook our hands asking both our names. We told him we were looking into the Chevy Bolt and comparing it with Toyota and wanted to test drive one. Shawn said great, that's so funny that you came in for that and I asked why? He said they assigned me the job of test driving cars today, come on in and let's see what we can find. Unfortunately, they did not have a Bolt in stock but he gave us a printout and answered every question we had about the car. My husband said wow, that is like a virtual test drive without the video. We have since purchased a Toyota but it was not our first choice if Galles had the car we wanted we would have purchased it from Shawn. Before we left I mentioned that I was very pleased and that I had purchased several vehicles in my time but he was one of the best sales people I had ever met, he replied it's not about selling its about customer service. I guess that is how he earned all those trophies behind his desk. Fantastic experience and when I need another car I will call Galles.” Jeanette L. in Albuquerque, NM - “Today we came in and we were looking for a used car for my mom. We were approached by Shawn M. Desmond. He was super helpful. was not pushy at all and did everything he could to us the best possible deal. We bought a 2016 Chevy sonic. Shawn made the whole experience nice, smooth and overall great experience! I would absolutely recommend Shawn and the Galles to all my family and friends!” ROGER J. in Albuquerque, NM - “I only had to wait five minutes at the Service Desks for a Galles rep to appear and oil change was completed one hour after my arrival. Offered a free car wash, I declined so that I could get back on the road. The big screen TV was a nice touch to the waiting room. Now if they would just serve popcorn it would have been a perfect afternoon.” DENNIS L. in Zuni, NM - “ Friendly sales team. Positive atmosphere. Especially our Salesman! The general manager.! Made us feel like a king and queen. ! We didn't wait that long to purchase our vehicle and the Finance Person was just so friendly and had the signing took less than 20 minutes. All our questions were answered regarding financing and about our New truck. :) GREAT JOB, KEEP IT UP!.” Aimee D. in Albuquerque, NM - “I was very impressed with the pre sales experience I had with Galles Chevrolet. Mr. Chris Lucero, internet sales, responded to my questions and concerns very quickly and was able to get me a great deal on the vehicle I wanted. I have dealt with Galles for service before, but never sales. I was not disappointed!! I look forward to again working with Galles in the future for my vehicle needs. Thank you  for a great experience!!!” See For Yourself Why Galles Chevrolet Is Your Best Choice!

Your vehicle’s blind spot can cause you a lot of issues, luckily today, a lot of newer vehicle have Blind Spot technology that will actually alert you that someone is in your blind spot. But if your vehicle doesn’t have this feature, or you’re a new driver trying to learn the basics, you might need a little help on what you should look out for. First off, the blind spots in your vehicle is an area around the vehicle that cannot be directly seen by the driver, even in their mirrors. The winter weather sure keeps us on our feet. One day its snow the next it freezing rain, but whatever the winter might throw at us you have to keep your vehicle regularly service to withstand any weather that we might get hit with. Many people will go get oil changes, change their tires, make sure their heaters are working, all which is very important for your vehicle to run properly. However, many drivers overlook one important aspect of your vehicle, and that is visibility. I think we can all agree that our ability to see the road is very important and that’s why our vehicles were made with windshield wipers. Your wipers are just like everything else, they have a lifespan and need to be replaced after a certain period of time. However, many drivers won’t change their wipers for years...this impairs your driving and can cause accidents. This week, I want to go over the importance of windshield wipers and inform you on when is the best time to change your wipers and how you know it’s time. I also want to help give you some tips on how to prolong your wipers so you’re not buying them serval time through the year. If you need new wipers for your Chevy, check out our parts page and schedule a service appointment so we can replace them for you. If you have any other question feel free to give us a call and we will do our best to answer your questions! Wipers 101 It’s time to change your wipers if…. Streaking occurs when the rubber squeegee dries, hardens, and cracks Skipping occurs when the blade develops a curvature from lack of use Wearing occurs with extensive use and is when the rubber edges are rounded instead of squared Splitting is caused when the sun’s rays penetrate the rubber squeegee, causing it to break down Bent frames are caused by inconsistent contact with the glass surface, creating streaking or skipping If you’re running outside to go inspect your vehicle to see if it’s time to change your wipers be sure to look for the following! Broken frames Metal corrosion Visible cracks Rounded squeegee edges Loose or unsecured wiper blades Check that the squeegee is secure in the wiper frame Visibility is extremely important to safe driving. Although drivers depend on their wiper blades to clear rain, sleet, snow, etc., many wait too long to replace them. Do yourself a favor and be sure to maintain wiper blades regularly which can maximize your visibility, efficiency, and reliability! If you want some tips on how to maintain the life of your wiper blades check them out below! When you get gas, be sure to clean your windows too Clean your squeegee often Never use your wipers to de-ice your window Pull your blades up during snow/ice storms Snag Your Parts Here!
