Thinking about hitting the road for some good old family fun? We totally support it! However, depending on how old your children are, traveling long distances with younger children can sometimes be more to take on then we anticipated. That’s why this week we have done the hard work for you and we’ve put together some of our favorite road trip games. I know what you’re thinking ‘how will everyone screaming eye spy, going to help make the ride easier?’ Well, if your little ones are entertained you will hear a lot less ‘are we there yet” and crying, which makes it easier for you to focus on the road and not on a crying baby. We suggest planning ahead a little bit and mapping out the best times to play each game. You don’t want to play all the games at once because that can become boring quickly and you don’t want to run out of games too quick. Check out the games below and if you have any favorites that aren’t listed, feel free to let us know and we can add them to the list for other families to play too! I Spy My favorite game! Someone starts the game by saying “I spy with my little eye….” and follows up with a clue as to what you are seeing. Each passenger takes a turn guessing at what the object may be, the person who guesses the object first gets to start the next round. License Plate Map: Grab a clipboard, a blank printed out copy of the U.S. map, and some colored pencils! When you see a license plate from one of the states, color it in and keep searching! This game will keep kids entertained for hours as they race to be the first one to get all 50 states! Plus, it will help them determine where certain states are on the map. The Alphabet Race A passenger picks a single letter from A-Z, whoever spots that letter out the window first (cars, tractor, billboard, for example) gets to start the next round. This game truly has no winner and can help pass the time especially with small children who are learning to associate letters with objects. 20 Questions Another one of my favorite games! A passenger in the vehicle thinks of something/ someone and other passengers have to take turns guessing who/ what the person, place or thing is. Guesses must be answered with a simple yes or no. After each answer, the guesser gets ONE chance to guess at what is the object/person. The passenger that guesses correctly wins and gets to start the next round. Spot The Car This game is great for older children who can differentiate the difference between various vehicle models. Prepare by making a printable scavenger hunt checklist for each passenger to check off when a vehicle model is found. The first passenger to get all the models wins! Find The Perfect Ride Here!

Deciding between the two options is more about a lifestyle choice. You will have to think about how often you drive, how far you drive, how much you are willing to pay and other things alike. Your lifestyle plays a big role in whether you choose to lease or buy. Financing will also play a role in your choice. It is important to have an idea of what you are willing to put down as a down payment if any at all. Also, think about what you are comfortable spending on a car payment each month - this will help you decide whether to buy or lease. Pros to leasing: Lower monthly payments and little to no down payment. You can easily transition to a new vehicle every three years. Trade-in hassles are a thing of the past when you lease. Your repairs costs can be cheaper due to the vehicle’s factory warranty You can drive a nicer, newer car for less money. Cons to Leasing: You have limited mileage during your lease. You could face wear-and-tear charges, this is can have a hefty price tag at the end of your lease The dealer has true ownership over the vehicle - but you do have the option to buy. Lease contracts can sometimes be confusing and include unfamiliar terminology. It will cost you a pretty penny in order to terminate your lease early. Pros to Buying: You will save money long term if you choose to buy. You’ll have the option to trade-in on the next vehicle you plan to purchase. No mileage restrictions - you can go wherever you please. You can modify your vehicle however you like. Flexibility towards selling your car. Cons to Buying: Hefty down payments to avoid a higher monthly payment - or if you are upside down in a loan. Your money can get tied up in your vehicle, which depreciates in value. In the southwest and other places with little rain, like our sweet home here in Albuquerque, Christmas trees tend to be replaced with Christmas cacti and succulents. But just because we don’t have the traditional Christmas tree doesn’t mean we can’t decorate our cactus like a champ! What a lot of people don’t realize is there are a lot of different types of cacti, and there are different techniques for doing so. So we thought what better way to get in the holiday spirit than with a quick DIY cactus decoration. So, if you’re apartment is too small for a big tree or you just want to do something different this year, check out our tips for decorating your Christmas cactus! Illuminating Desert Plants for the Holidays: It's a bit more time consuming and a specialized task to adorn cacti, succulents, yucca, and unusually-shaped desert plants with string lights. Here are a few tips and tricks: Invest in a good pair of gloves, ones that won't allow spines and needles to penetrate. For taller cactus or hard-to-reach branches, consider getting a reaching, grabbing, or pick-up tool. Net lights draped over a cactus are much easier than wrapping with string lights, although they have a different effect and don't outline the shape as much. Use a light hand while decorating--don't stretch the light strand or wrap it tightly around a cactus. Barrel Cactus Decorated With Lights: Barrel cactus looks best wrapped with one color of string lights, like red or white, so that they sound out. Size: up to 5 feet high by 2 feet wide which can really give the Christmas tree effect. Flowers bloom on old growth, and are up to 3 inches wide and grow in a ring around the top. So it gives the effect of ornaments. Go For The Cactus Garden Look: This is pretty simple if you’re not into getting a large cactus. Twist lights throughout the garden, be sure not to tangle them too much for simple removal. El Malpais National Monument: New Mexico is home to 11 national monuments, and several are an easy drive from Albuquerque Best known for its lava tubes and lava flows created millions of years ago There are three exits off of I-40 that take you to different parts of the park Highway 53 out of Grants takes you to lava tubes and park headquarters, where you can obtain a mandatory, but free, cave permit. Tours are seven days a week, starting at 8:30 a.m. with the last tour at 3:30 p.m. Acoma Pueblo's Sky City: The longest-inhabited city in North America, dating back to 1150. Both the Mission and Acoma Pueblo are Registered National Historic Landmarks and are on the National Register of Historic Places Sky City can be accessed only by 1.5-hour guided educational tours, which start at the cultural center, and a permit must be purchased for photography, which is restricted Tour fees are $23 for adults, $20 for seniors, military and students, and family rates also are available. Camera permit is $13 About 55 minutes west of Albuquerque Tent Rocks: You can drive to an overview of the rocks, or for a more interesting and interactive journey, park at the lower lot and wiggle your way through the narrow slot canyons on a hike up through the balanced rocks themselves To get there, head north on I-25, then take the Highway 22 exit toward Cochiti Reservoir. Follow the signs to Cochiti Pueblo and the monument. Vehicle entry fee is $5.
