General Motors has announced that the Chevrolet brand’s total sales for April came to an impressive 183,442 units and total sales for the entire year came to 656,172  units. The Silverado was by far the best-selling model for the month with 49,990 units sold making this its best April since 2006 and rising 8.7 percent over April of last year. In the early 1900s America began its mission to make literacy a priority and one of the main results from this effort was the creation of the mobile library. The mobile library first began in 1912 when horse-drawn carriages were officially replaced by automobiles in mass production. These mobile libraries really began to take off by the 1930s and in 1931 Chevy was selected as the brand to provide the vehicles for these libraries leading to the creation of the 1931 Chevy Bookmobile. This vehicle was literally a traveling library that stored books from all genres and they were available to the general public on a regular basis for them to check out and return books. By 1931 there were about 60 of these bookmobiles and now, Auctions America’s Auburn will be auctioning one off during their spring event. Next month will mark the 100th running of the historic Indianapolis 500, along with the 50th anniversary of the Chevrolet Camaro. In joint celebration, the two will team up again, as the 2017 Camaro SS 50th Anniversary Edition hits the track as the pace car for this memorable event. The pace car will be driven by Roger Penske, motorsports icon and team owner. This will be the ninth time that the race will feature the Camaro and the 27th time for the Chevy brand. There will be four pace cars for the race, and they will all be identical with Abalone White exterior color adorning the words “100th Running of the Indianapolis 500” written on the doors and the wing-and-wheel logo on the quarter panels. On Saturday, May 14, 2016, award-winning young adult fiction author, John Green served as the honorary pace-car driver in the Verizon IndyCar Series Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Green is an Indiana native and a big IndyCar fan and so he was thrilled at the chance to drive a 2016 Chevy Corvette Stingray Coupe around the track in this exciting fashion. “This is such an honor to be chosen to drive the pace car at one of the most iconic race tracks in the world – which just happens to be in my backyard,” said Green, whose debut novel, Looking for Alaska, won the Printz Award, given annually for the best book written for young adults, in 2006. “I’m looking forward to driving on the same track as so many of the greatest drivers in the world.” Chevrolet has been providing pace cars for races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1948, and the brand will also be providing the pace car on May 29, 2016 during the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. The 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe that will be driven by Green in this race is designed in Torch Red and comes equipped with the Z51 Performance Package that includes a LT1 V-8 engine that generates 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. General Motors is truly dedicated to creating eco-friendly vehicles in every way possible. Their latest go green venture includes recycling the plastic from employee water bottles and using it to create parts for the Chevy Equinox. The water bottles are collected from five different GM facilities in Michigan as part of the “Do Your Part” project and are used to create noise insulation material for the vehicle’s engine. General Motors chose to participate in this project after seeing the benefits of a holistic business. For starters, using recycled materials costs the same but it saves energy and reduces overall waste. Secondly, It helps to strengthen the economy by engaging a network of companies to process the material in North America. “Recycling is good, but viewing waste as a valuable resource that can be plugged into your operations or products is even better,” said John Bradburn, GM global manager of waste reduction. “It’s about rethinking the process and finding more sustainable ways to manufacture products and contribute to our communities.” Some of the material is also used to create air filtration components and insulation that is used in coats for the homeless. This past weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway, Chevrolet put several of their special edition Silverado trucks on display. Each SIlverado was paired with a Chevy Racing driver that sang its praises for the fans to help them learn what each of these specials models had to offer. The fans could then vote for their favorite throughout the weekend by visiting twitter.com/ChevyTrucks. “We introduced several special editions in 2015 – each combining equipment and appearance packages designed for specific enthusiasts in mind,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet truck marketing director. They clearly resonated with buyers, selling in one-third the time – and attracting new, younger, and more affluent buyers to the brand – than the industry average. They also helped make Chevrolet the fastest-growing truck brand in the industry,” Piszar continued. “In 2015, total Chevrolet truck sales increased 27 percent – double the increase for the total truck market. The Chevrolet brand has closed out the third month of the year with a sales increase of 1.4 percent year-over-year with total March sales reaching 176,283 units. As of the end of the first official sales quarter for the year, the brand’s total sales for 2016 have so far reached 427,730 units. “The strong retail and Commercial sales GM has been delivering are the result of a multi-year strategy to strengthen our brands, attract new customers and grow profitably,” said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of Sales Operations. “We are growing retail sales faster than the industry, and we are doing it with disciplined incentives and inventories, and lower rental deliveries. Our business is very healthy, and we are going to manage it with conviction to keep it that way.” With 47,966 units sold in March, the Silverado was by far the brand’s top-selling model for the month. The next highest selling model was the Malibu with 22,058 units sold which is also a 33.3 percent increase over last year. The model with the highest year-over-year increase, however, was the Volt, up 191.9 percent to reach 1,865 units sold. Chevrolet recently teamed up with spoken word star, Prince Ea to create a new video spot that was inspired by the incredible capabilities of the 2016 Chevy Cruze. When Chevy first introduced the 2016 Spark it garnered a great deal of attention for its conveniently compact size and impressive level of efficiency. Now, the brand is designing the 2017 model and they have already announced that there will be some new design changes, specifically in relation to the exterior color options that will be available for this model. For the new model year, Chevy will be eliminating five of the current color options and adding five new ones into the rotation. The current color options of Titanium, Lime, Electric Blue, Black Granite, and Salsa are all being eliminated and they are being replaced by Nightfall Gray, Mint, Red Hot, Brimstone, and Mosaic Black.
