Chevy Powers Small Businesses with City Express
Chevrolet has developed a vehicle that is designed to the ever-growing necessity of small businesses everywhere with the release of the 2015 City Express cargo van. This market is continuously expanding, in fact according to statistics from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, small business registrations from 2009-2013 increased by 41%. Additionally, small businesses account for 99.7% of employer firms. “Small businesses constitute key innovators in the U.S. economy,” said Peter Adriaens, professor of entrepreneurship at U of M’s Ross School of Business. “With 28 million small businesses already active in the United States, of which 98 percent export goods, there is a ripe market to be had for a product like this.” This new model is ideal for small businesses due to its impressive amount of car storage capacity of 122.7 cubic feet inside of a more compact-sized vehicle. Additionally, this model is also fuel efficient with an EPA estimate of 24 MPG city/ 26 MPG highway.
American Performance Showcased in Camaro Engines
In the 48 years since the first-ever Chevy Camaro was introduced, the industry has seen a total of five generations of this model roll off the assembly line. Along with the numerous Camaro versions, this model has also experienced a wide range of variety in the types of engines that have powered them. Given the range of time that the Camaro has been in existence you can actually follow the rise and fall of American performance preferences through the various capabilities seen in the Camaro engine over the year. “From the day it was introduced, the Camaro has been part of American culture and a reflection of the state of the American performance industry,” said Dean Guard, General Motors executive director global gasoline engine engineering, whose first car was a 1982 Camaro with a 5.0L V-8. “What has never changed was the Camaro’s fun, attainable performance for a broad spectrum of customers, and the personal connection it inspired with generations of owners.” First Generation (1967-1969): Throughout the two years of the first generation, there were several different types of Camaro engines. A the base trim level, a 140 Inline-six Engine provided power. The higher trim levels were all given the option of several V-8 engines that had a hp range of 200 - 375. There were also several Sixty-nine special-option COPO Camaros produced which were powered by a 425 hp 427-cubic-inch-engine. Second Generation (1970-1981): During the eleven years of the second generation’s run, the U.S. experienced a major oil crisis. Gas stations were put on rations and only allowed to give about a certain amount of gas per day if any and prices skyrocketed. As a result, the focus of engines shifted to a strong need for a high fuel economy rating over performance. When the second generation first began in 1970 the top trim engine produced an impressive hp rate of 375, by 16975, however, the top trim engine’s horsepower rating was only 155. The brand also did away with their big block engines focusing solely on the small-block family which provided a higher level of efficiency. Third Generation (1982-1992): During the third generation’s ten-year run, the gas crisis came to an end and the performance capabilities of Camaro engine launched back into full force. At the beginning of the decade most models were powered by a one of the newly developed four-cylinder engines that included a 2.5L Inline engine and a range of V6 & V8 engines, all of which generated a horsepower rating of 88-92. Toward the end of the generation’s run, in 1990 the Camaro 350 TPI was introduced which offered an impressive rating of 245 hp and 345 lb.-ft of torque. Fourth Generation (1993-2002): Throughout the nine years of the fourth generation, newly released Camaro models were all powered by several V-6 and small-block V-8 engines. The power of the V-6 engines ranged from 160 hp in the 3.4L on up to 200 hp in the 3.8L. The power of the V-8 engines varies as well, with the most powerful of the range being the 305 hp Gen III “LS1” Small Block V-8 that powered the Camaro SS and Z28 Fifth Generation (2010-2015): In the current generation of Camaro engines, we have seen some of the most powerful options that have ever powered a Camaro. These engines include a 323 DODC V-6, a 426 hp 6.2L Gen IV Small Block V-8, a 505 hp 7.0L engine and the most powerful engine ever, the 580 hp supercharged version of the 6.2L Gen III Small Block.
